In My Life...

When I wake up in the morning, the very first thought in my mind is: "Thank God for another day!" And after that: "How can I make someone's day just a little bit brighter today?"

My heart glows when the sun is shining and people are filled with joy and my heart breaks when I see a person who has lost their hope.

My clients are my inspiration and teachers. More than anything else, I care about helping them to feel beautiful and confident so that they can share their enthusiasm for life with the world.

In my world...Taking time for yourself is an absolute necessity. A pedicure is always a fabulous idea. Striving for perfection is overrated and focusing on your flaws rather than your attributes is a definite NO.

Fantasizing about curling up by a fire with a good book and a glass of wine is totally reasonable. Striving for balance in all areas of your life is a must. But at the end of the day, being happy with who you are is all that really matters.

When I die, I want to be remembered as a person who saw the good in other people and who inspired others to see the beauty in themselves, too.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a 4000 year old therapy that is commonly practiced in India to this day. The treatment is calming to the mind and relaxing for tightness and tension in the neck, head and face.

An Indian head massage is performed while fully clothed and in a seated position so it is perfect for most people and easy to receive in your home or office. You should not receive this massage if you are not feeling well,  have had recent whiplash, uncontrolled epilepsy or an infectious condition on the scalp.

To prepare for a head massage you should have clean dry hair, free of styling products. If you wear a cotton t-shirt it will be easiest for the therapist. The treatment takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete. Be sure to drink lots of water following your treatment to flush the toxins out of your system.

The massage begins on your shoulders. The moves help loosen tight muscles and break down knots in the upper back.

The upper arms are massaged to relieve tension and drain toxins that build up in the arm muscles.

The neck massage help relieve tightness and congestion in the neck and shoulder area.

The scalp massage is both relaxing and stimulating. The moves soothe and relax the scalp muscles and can relieve tension headaches. Other moves simulate circulation and are energizing.

The massage of the face helps relax the jaw and relieves eyestrain and sinus congestion.

All the points of the ear are massages relieving fatigue in the body and mind.

The end of the massage will leave you feeling relaxed and free from stress and tension. The stimulation of the nerve endings and blood flow to the brain will improve concentration making this treatment a great pick me up for the middle of the day.

Jessica is an esthetician who believes that real beauty is a way of living, speaking and treating yourself and others--not a product you put on your face. (Of course, great organic lip gloss never hurts!)

One client described her as "A very calming energy. I feel a difference throughout my whole being," while another declared her to be "Always amazing!"

Her tips have been featured in Chatelaine Magazine, Mobile Spa Network and The Poser Blog.

When she's not primping clients for special events you can find her playing princess dress up with her daughters, practicing yoga or treating herself to a spa day.

Take Time to Relax

I know you... I am you. You hit the ground running every morning. Make sure the kids are dressed and fed. Drive them to school, practice and play dates. Get yourself to work. Hit the gym. Run, run, run all day long. All you crave is some time alone to relax. I have the answer!
Send the kids to a friend, brew a cup of tea and sit down in your favorite chair and prepare to escape for 90 glorious minutes. I will magically appear at your door with relaxation at hand.
Relax while your feet soak in a tub of warm, bubbling, sweet smelling water. Kick up your feet and lean back while I buff and polish your dry, tired, calloused toes and heels to smooth softness. Then prepare to experience the ultimate relaxation ritual. A 30 minute foot massage where every inch of your sole is pressed, kneaded and rubbed until you feel like you have died and gone to heaven. By this time you may have fallen asleep. I will quietly pack up and disappear, leaving you renewed and rejuvenated and ready to take on the rest of your day.

Thai Massage

Thai massage is my most favorite type of massage ever! It is sometimes called Thai yoga massage and this is what drew me to try it. I love to stretch and this massage is the perfect combination of stretching and massage. You lie on a mat on the ground while a therapist moves your body into different positions and massages your from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
My first experience with Thai massage was at an ecco resort in Mexico. I booked a massage at the spa after my yoga class by the ocean. The Thai massage was as close to heaven as I can imagine. After the massage I felt like I had just completed the most relaxing yoga stretches ever and all I had to do was lie there and relax.

I love receiving Thai massage so much I decided I would like to pass this on to my client and so I signed up to take Thai Massage 101 from Still Light Center. After taking the intensive class I felt prepared to pass on relaxing Thai Massage treatments to my family and friends. After a few massages I felt more confident about the technique and came to love giving massages as much as I love receiving them. One of the clients I practiced on wrote this to me following her first Thai massage ever "Thank you so much for that massage. It was the best one I have ever had. You truly have a gift. You have a very calming energy. I feel a difference throughout my whole being. Namaste." This note motivated me to continue to practice and further my education in Thai Massage.
If you would like to try Thai massage there are some things you should know before your treatment. First you remain fully clothed during this massage so it is best to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to stretch and more, like clothes you would wear to do yoga. Second try not to eat a big meal before your massage as you will feel bloated and won't feel as relaxed as you could. Here are some photos of what a Thai Massage looks like...
Thai Massage begins in a seated position...

And then reclining on your back...

Rolling over to your front...
The massage finishes on your back. Try to relax after your massage and drink water to flush the toxins from your system.
I encourage anyone that is able to try this massage. You will not regret it!

Bridal Hair & Makeup

Preparing for Bridal Hair and Makeup

Planning a wedding is a huge job. There are so many things to consider and people to please. Often brides forget about themselves until the last minute. Here is a guide to booking appointments to make sure the bride and her bridal party look their best and arrive at the ceremony feeling relaxed and happy!
  • 6 months before book a hairstylist and make up artist for the wedding day and book your trials.
  • 2 months before have a make up and hair trial. Try to do both trials on the same day so you can see how the hairstyle and make up look together. Take photos of how you would like your hair and makeup to look to show the stylist and make up artist so they can work with you to achieve the look you want.
  • 2 weeks before get a facial so your skin is exfoliated and moisturized and ready to glow on the wedding day. During this week is also a good time to get a body scrub and massage so your skin feels silky and you can relax before all the excitement begins.
  • 1 week before get a pedicure. Have a spa party with the bridesmaids and get nails and pedicures so you will all have pretty fingers toes for the wedding. If you are getting eyelash extensions have them done this week as well.
  • 2 days before give yourself a good body exfoliation and get a spray tan if you want to be more bronzed for the wedding. Today is also a good day to get your nails done if you have not had them done yet.
  • 1 day before wash your hair. Your hairstyle will hold better if your hair is not freshly washed so washing it the day before is best. Get your dress, shoes, accessories and make up together and ready so your don't forget anything.
  • On THE day...Relax and enjoy yourself! Cleanse your face before having your make up done and apply your regular moisturizer and eye cream. Be sure to have you hair accessories, lip stick and strip eyelashes with you when get your hair and make up done. Your hair and make up will be sprayed into place and should stay put the entire day. You will, however, need to reapply your lipstick during the day so have it in a bag with your eyelash glue in case an eyelash comes loose and some tissue to blot your face in case some tears fall. After the hair and makeup are complete all you have to do is get dressed and enjoy the rest of your fabulous day!

Safe Cosmetics

I do my best to live a healthy lifestyle by eating whole natural foods and exercising daily. I feel I should do everything I can to remove excess toxins from my life. I realize that many of the cosmetics I use contain carcinogens and other harmful substances.

Here is a list of the most common ingredients in cosmetics that can cause problems.

  • Parabens - Parabens are a chemical compound that are added to products to act as a preservative by fighting bacteria and fungus. It is an inexpensive preservative and is used in many cosmetics. Parabens are able to penetrate the skin and can interfere with hormone function. I have a thyroid problem and I know that many other women do as well. A possible cause of thyroid and other hormone problems may be the parabens we put on our skin everyday. To be safe I am now using paraben-free cosmetics.
  • Formaldehyde - Another preservative used in many cosmetics. Formaldehyde can cause skin irritation and allergic reaction and is also a known carcinogen.
  • Toluene and DBP - Solvents found in nail polish and other paints. These can cause fatigue, headaches and may harm unborn babies in pregnant women. When I was pregnant I would try to avoid places with strong smells like nail salons. Better safe than sorry.
Here is a list of cosmetics I love that I find to be safe:
  • Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics - Youngblood is made of pure premium grade minerals, is paraben-free and contains no synthetic ingredients.
  • Pharmagel - Pharmagel skin care uses natural ingredients to preserve and repair the skin. Pharmagel is vegan and paraben-free.
  • Bio Sculpture - Bio Sculpture gel is the only gel nail product that has undergone a clinical research study to prove that all the ingredients in the formulas are safe. Bio Sculpture gel nails have a 5 star safety rating.
  • China Glaze - China Glaze nail polish is carcinogenic-free and free of DBP, toluene and formaldehyde.
  • Hempz - Hempz body care contains hemp seed oil. The essential fatty acids in hemp seed oil help heal protect and renew the skin. Hempz creams are paraben-free, gluten-free and vegan.
  • Zuzu Luxe - A fabulous cosmetic line that is gluten-free, paraben-free and vegan.
There are many wonderful safe cosmetics on the market now but these are my favorites. I suggest that everyone read the ingredients in the products they use and try and find ones that free of the most harmful ingredients.
